How to Choose the Right Drum Heater

Are you in the market for a drum heater, but don’t know which one will suit your needs best? Whether you are looking to heat up paint, water, oils, or honey we will help break down the different types of heaters you can use and what would be the most beneficial to your heating needs.

If you’re heating a 5-gallon bucket or a 55-gallon barrel, Temperature Superstore has a full coverage heater that will fit the bill. Full coverage container heaters are great at uniform heating. Since these heaters are secured all the way around the drum top to bottom the contents are heated evenly, preventing localized hot spots.

We offer both the SteadyHeat Brand of Full Coverage Drum Heaters, as well as the BriskHeat Brand. Both brands offer an insulation layer to help distribute the heat more efficiently, reducing heat loss to the environment and improving energy efficiency.

SteadyHeat comes in both 5-gallon sizes as well as 55. The 5-gallon sizes come in two different temperature ranges 105°F and 140°F. Keep in mind that the 105°F version is just enough to keep something from freezing. This is great if you have a bucket of water outside that you need to keep from freezing, or if you have the time to wait, it will also safely warm up honey and waxes.

The 140°F version also comes in a 55-gallon size. This temperature is great for viscosity control, especially when it comes to honeys, oils, waxes etc. Both versions of these heaters are easily fastened to the drum with hook and loop closures. And since they are lightweight, these can easily be installed without help.

The BriskHeat brand comes in the same sizes, but the temperatures vary. These full coverage drum heaters have higher temperatures and are made for more heavy-duty industrial processes.

Now silicone band heaters offer a little more simplicity than a traditional full-coverage heater. The band simply stretches around the container to be heated and is fastened with a spring. These types of heaters are also very flexible, so they can easily be adjusted to different drum sizes. The only downside you might see with a band heater such as this, is the potential for hot spots, and not much uniform heating.
